Because I'm A Copycat

I thought this linky was really cute when I first saw it, but I decided I wasn't going to participate because I was busy doing important things like getting ready for my first day of school Monday. But then I saw like every one of my friends had done it, and I don't like to be left out of a good party. So...

Hi there! I'm Erin AKA Miss Lifesaver. I'm about to start my 9th years in education here in the Chicago suburbs (except for the one year I taught at a charter school in Baton Rouge).  I've been a substitute, paraprofessional, ESL teacher, and ELA teacher. To start this year, I am covering a maternity leave teaching 7th grade world history. I am extremely passionate about working with middle school students and am constantly looking for my "home" school... maybe this will be my year! *fingers crossed*

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...
Organizing, sushi, Chipotle, iced tea, beaches, flair pens, flip flops, chevron, anything pumpkin, french fries, YA novels, The Real Housewives of anywhere, da Bears, catching up with former students, Apple products, manicures, cupcakes...

IF YOU WEREN'T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
In high school, I was voted most likely to be a talk show host. Truthfully, I would give up teaching in a second if I had this opportunity. And I LOVE teaching!

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Creative, Caring, Loyal

FINISH THE SENTENCE, "________,  SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!"
"It's completely valid that my success as a teacher is measured by a test..."

Q: IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE {DEAD OR ALIVE} TO THE PARTY. WHO ARE YOU INVITING?
This is going to sound cheesy, but I would LOVE to hang out with my bloggy friends I haven't been able to meet IRL yet!

Q: IF SOMEONE WROTE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?
It's Dark In This Hallway

You know how people always say when one door closes, another opens? Sometimes you're stuck in that hallway, looking for that open door, for much longer than you'd like. Things happen in the dark.. funny things, scary things... stories definitely worth telling. :)

Q:YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?
Remember how Sabrina the Teenage Witch would snap her fingers and have a whole new cute outfit and hair? I want to be able to do that!

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?
Something I have to tell myself often...

Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
"Stay" by Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories

In high school, I broke the antenna off my car (don't ask how. Such details are embarrassing and don't matter.) leaving me with no radio. The neighbor I drove to school brought a WuTang cassette tape (I know... I'm dating myself here), which got stuck in the player. Our options were rap or sing. My BFF and I often chose to sing, but this was like the only song we could both sing all the way through so it was our default choice!

Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?
I'm more of a night owl for sure. It's far easier for me to stay up late than to wake up early. I hate mornings. If you know of any schools that start at 10, please point me in that direction!

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE THAT YOU'VE CREATED IN YOUR TPT SHOP?
My Christmas Carol Novel Study is one of my favorite units to teach. I love the way my students struggle through this book and then are so proud of themselves when the see what they've accomplished. This is my most thorough product, for sure, since I included everything I use to teach it.

Q: SHARE SOMETHING WE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU!
I've always wished I could sing. I mean... I do it ALL THE TIME... I just want to be REALLY good at it. Not so I could be famous or anything either. I just want to be able to bust into song without feeling judged by my dog... it's happened. Seriously.

  2. Oh my gosh! I love flair pens AND organizing AND iced tea AND flip AND...well you get the point. We're kind of alike in A LOT of ways. I also teach ELA, but I'm scared of middle school kids, so I teach high school lol. I definitely hope you find your forever home soon. It will happen when you least expect it. :)

  3. Flair pens are my kryptonite whenever I enter a store...especially when they are on sale! *gasps* Thankfully, I already have a pack for this year, we'll see how long they last haha. I would totally come to your birthday party by the way- my hometown is Chicago, I'd go up there in a flash! ;) and I never thought of Sabrina's super power; that'd be a great one to have!

  4. I would be a FABULOUS night school teacher! Seriously. You've got "Stay" stuck in my head now. P.S....I didn't do this linky...so I feel left out. P.S. Jerm's mom started singing "All about that bass" tonight and I almost fell on the floor. I wish you could've been there. Too funny!

  5. I love your book title & yes, the best stories often happen in that "wait" or hallway phase as you call it - I love that analogy!

Your superpower reminds me of the Clueless closet - she has the computer to generate her outfits & then with your Sabrina superpower you'd be all set!

I wasn't going to participate either, but glad I did - have a great year!

  6. Hello Erin! I’m just getting to know other middle school bloggers in this linky party. YA Novels are my favorite also! I helped my hubby discover how great they are also. He has written a few and has a goal of getting at least one of them published. :-) Lisa from Created for Learning

  7. Glad you got yourself a job, and that it leads to a contract.
I watch all those dumb Housewife shows too. Guilty pleasure. Manicures....ahhh, I love 'em and I need one. And I love flips flops too, but they have RUINED my feet, I tell you. Lol. I'm rambling and I'm tired. Time to go to bed.

  8. You are just too cute! I adore you! Your story about the cassette tape reminded me of an episode of How I Met Your Mother where they sing "500 Miles" about 500 times! I also would be very envious of your superpower...why didn't I choose that!? We have so many things in common I can't wait to meet you IRL! Let's make it happen!
